Having beautiful centerpieces at your wedding reception is important to many brides. If you are working with a tight budget for your wedding, you may want to create the wedding reception centerpieces on your own. The guide below walks you through a quick and easy way to create unique centerpieces for your wedding reception.
Find a Thick Tree Limb
The first thing you need to do is to find a thick tree limb that needs to be trimmed from a tree. Cut the limb carefully from the tree. Measure the limb and make a mark every two inches. Use a chain saw to cut the limb at each mark to create even rings from the limb. Allow the rings to dry for roughly one week and then apply a coat of polyurethane gel to the wooden rings so that they have a clear sheen to them.
Purchase Small Decorative Lanterns
Next, you need to purchase small decorative lanterns online to use on the wooden rings. You want the lanterns to look slightly worn to give them a rustic look. Rub the edges of the lantern with a fine sandpaper to rough the edges slightly to make the lantern look worn.
Attach the Lantern to the Wooden Ring
Apply hot glue to the bottom of the lantern and place it firmly against the wooden ring. You can choose to center the lantern or place it to one side of the ring, depending on the look you want to create.
Decorate the Wooden Ring
Apply hot glue along the top of the wooden ring around the edges of the lantern and press dried moss against the glue. Be sure that the moss presses against the sides of the lantern so that it creates a seamless look. Purchase imitation butterflies and use hot glue to attach them to the moss and the top of the lantern.
Finish the Rustic Look
Add a battery operated candle inside of the lantern so that you can have a gentle glow on each table. You do not want to use a real candle in the lantern as it could become a fire hazard if it is knocked over accidentally.
When the wedding reception is over, you can allow guests to take the centerpieces home with them so that you do not have to worry about storing or disposing of them. They will serve as great decorative pieces for someone to use in their home on a bookcase, mantle, or side table.
